TC Electronic is a brand that most guitar and bass guitar players associate with effects pedals. However, it just so happens that they build pretty awesome bass amplifiers as well. Their TC Electronic BH250 is easily one of the most unique and most capable bass heads on the market right now. As you are about to find out, BH250 comes with quite a few surprises. Controls

Compared to regular bass amps, TC Electronic BH250 feels like something straight from a sci-fi movie. The core controls are not all that exotic. There is a three-band EQ, the master volume knob and the gain switch that lets you choose between a passive and active electronics setup. Now, the core of this amp is the TonePrint knob. If you are familiar with their pedals, you probably know what this feature means. In essence, it allows you to load in just about any effect imaginable to straight to the amp. You can do this either by using your phone or a computer, but more on that later. The default effect is a chorus, which is turned on when you turn the knob clockwise. On top of all this, there is a mute button as well.

What we are looking at here is a tiny amp head that packs 250 Watts of power. TC Electronic has centered the entire design around the TonePrint feature we have mentioned earlier. The cool thing about this technology is that you can load in full presets designed by popular bass players, or even design your own. Now, the way you load presets or effects into the amp is incredible. If you are using your phone, all you have to do is open the app and select the desired preset. Next, you put the phone right on top of the pickups on your bass while its hooked up to the amp, and press a button to start the download sequence. You will hear a weird noise and the amp is ready.

Performance

It is no secret that TonePrint acts as a powerful force multiplier for the BH250. However, its core performance is pretty solid as well. With 250 Watts, you can expect more than enough volume no matter which speaker cab you hook this thing up to. While it's not all that versatile without a specific preset loaded in, BH250 can still deliver a decent tone. With that said, exploring the extent of TonePrint technology is pretty futile. There are so many presets and so many effects to go through, all of which are pretty impressive on their own. Whether you are looking for an unusual and capable practice amp or a solid platform for gigging, TC Electronic BH250 is among the more exotic solutions out there.

Conclusion

At the end of the day, what BH250 offers is anything but ordinary. As such, it will have its fans as well as those who will see nothing more than a gimmick. The truth is somewhere in between. Without TonePrint, this head is a decent source of power in a light package. With TonePrint, the sky is the limit. Best of all, the price you are asked to pay is actually pretty reasonable.
