The VM-1 volume pedal from Mission Engineering struck us as a pleasant surprise and a living proof that smaller, more local companies can create music gear that can stand up to the big boys, and even beat a fair share of 'em along the way.

This item falls into the high-end price category, and is worth just about every penny. It's smooth, classy and does everything a good volume pedal should. Make sure to check out the full review in the section below for more details.

Mission VM-1-3

Features

We are looking at a mono pedal with a single input and one main output, allowing you to use only one instrument at one moment, as well as refraining you from utilizing stereo rigs. There is also a second output jack, which operates as a Tuner Out, allowing you to connect a tuning device of your choice and keep your instrument in proper shape throughout the entire performance. The tuner out can be activated by pressing the mute button on the front of the pedal. Handy for live gigs, although not essential.

The product features a very sturdy, elegant and classy metal casing that's both durable and cool-looking. It weighs in at 3.6 pounds and features a total size of 12 x 5 x 5 inches. With a 500K impedance, the pedal is very well suited for passive electric guitar pickups. You can get it in red, green, black, and metal color finish.

Crafted right in the US of A, VM-1 comes with a 45-day return and 60-day price protection policy.

Mission VM-1-2

Controls

Simplicity is the word of the day here, and we actually quite like the way manufacturer put the grand focus on quality components, inner circuitry and strong casing rather than flashy knobs and tweaks. Apart from the aforementioned mute button, the device's only control is the pedal itself, which is smooth, accurate, and easy to use.

Note that an additional LED indicator can be purchased to show when the pedal is in mute mode. Additionally, the device is completely passive, meaning that no batteries or external power supplies are needed for it to operate.

Performance

When it comes to performance, accuracy is most definitely the word of the day! This is one of the most accurate pedal we've encountered on today's market, and something that can easily stand up to the best of 'em.

The sweep is very linear and the pedal really feel like an extension of your foot at times. Additionally, the item is durable and reliable, requiring pretty much zero maintenance even after several years of use.

Value/Conclusion

This is most certainly a high-end volume pedal, but the quality justifies the price tag. It's a top-level piece and a great treat for folks who prefer not buying equipment from big-name companies that everyone else has. If you're looking to stand out from the crowd both in terms of sound and looks, this is a great choice. Highly recommended, a thumbs up from here!
