Body And Neck

Flying V is a body shape that pretty much market '80s and '90s. Just about every popular metal guitarist from that era used it, or still uses it. Mustaine was known for his affection towards this particular body shape, so it's no wonder that one of his signature guitars uses it. The body is made of mahogany and sports a custom paint job on the top. The graphic in question is a pair of wings which are done with a great amount of detail. The neck is a set piece made of mahogany and it sports Mustaine's favorite profile, the special D.

Hardware

One of Mustaine's requirements was to fit this guitar out with a rugged set of hardware, and so they did. You get a fixed Tune-o-Matic bridge with a string-through body design, which keeps everything tight no matter how crazy you go on the fretboard. As an extra layer of precaution, Dean also added a set of mini Grovers. This way everything can be snapped into place, and your tuning retained no matter what.

Electronics

In terms of electronics, Mustaine opted to take the safe route. Dean got in touch with Seymour Duncan and secured their Live Wire humbuckers for this model. These are wired to a standard set of controls. You have your bridge pickup volume knob, neck pickup volume knob and the three-way selector switch. While it isn't flashy nor exotic, this configuration is reliable as it can be and that is something many can appreciate.

Sound

Using a passive set of pickups means that you will get some cuts on the amount of output you have at your disposal. However, other aspects of the tone retain qualities unique to this type of electronics. We are talking warmth, expressive potential and more. The tone you get from Dean VMNT Dave Mustaine Angel of Deth is one of the more refined, metal oriented tones on the market. It's definitely geared toward that Megadeth type of crunch, but is also capable of much more. Angel of Deth offers variety where there is usually none to be found, making it a great guitar for a number of applications.

Conclusion

Whether you're a fan of Dave Mustaine or not, this impressive V from dean will blow your mind. There's everything – from a very attractive appearance to more than suitable tone. Bang for the buck, it's a good deal to take.
