Squier Stop Dreaming Start Playing Bass

4.5 out of 5 stars

For people that are about to by their first bass or their first electric guitar, I always recommend going with a full beginner bass guitar pack. Why? Because for $200-300 you get everything that you can possibly need to start playing as soon as the delivery man knocks on your door and gives you the box. Do not get me wrong, buying a bass and then the appropriate amp and the all of the additional accessories is a great thing and after a while there is a big chance that you will become a shopping addict, but the best possible thing that a beginner can do is buy a complete kit just to make sure that he does not mess up somewhere in the process.

As always, when we talk about newbie packs, Squier and their “Stop dreaming, start playing” sets come in mind, and for a good reason. The Affinity J Newbie kit is the best solution for everyone who is just starting out. With it, you get a great bass (the Affinity Jazz Bass), a good amplifier (The Rumble 15 Amp), a gig bag, a cable, a strap, an instructional DVD to help you set everything up and even a pair of high quality Fender stereo headphones.

squier-jazz-bass-affinity-pack-rumble-0301675006-2The Affinity Jazz Bass guitar is great for beginners; it is considerably light thanks to the agathis body and the C-shape maple neck. Thanks to the cutaway body you have easy access to the 20 medium jumbo frets that are place on a rosewood fingerboard. The bass also features two J pickups, a standard 4 saddle bridge, one volume and one tone control. If it was sold separately, this axe could easily go for over $200, fortunately you are given the chance to buy the whole pack at a similar price.

The only thing that this set lacks is some good starter lessons, but you can find plenty of them online. However, I would still recommend going with a paid online course because the quality of the lessons is incomparable to any video that you can just find on YouTube. If you are serious about advancing fast, I would recommend you to buy this pack and pay for some good online lessons.

A lot of rookies are making the mistake to spend a grand on a guitar and an amp and start learning from free YouTube videos. This is not how it is done, do it the right way and in 6 months you will be able to join any band in the neighborhood.
